The system of submitting applications for legal aid in cases of violations of rights of the people, effected by HIV has been working on the site of the Regional HIV Legal Aid Network. Rights of people, living with HIV, injecting drug users, patients of substitutional therapy, representatives of LGBT community, sex workers, detained persons and prisoners are in focus.
The Handbook “Know Your Rights, Use Your Laws” was published. It is step-by-step Handbook for ad-hoc and comprehensive protection of rights of people who live with or are at risk of HIV, their close ones, and providers of services. This material was prepared for representatives of vulnerable groups, not lawyers.
The institution of Presidents Commissioner for the Rights of Disabled People was introduced in Ukraine
The institution of the President's Commissioner for the Rights of Disabled People has been introduced by the Decree of President of Ukraine.Among the priorities of the Commissioner there are the implementation of international standards for the integration of people with disabilities in society, fostering respect for their identity.
The non-governmental coalitions against torture in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and International Partnership for Human Rights issued a newsletter on the psychological aspects of human rights work against torture.
The press conference “The state has forgotten about HIV- positive people in the area of anti-terrorist operation” (ATO), held in Kyiv on 12 November 2014, was organized by the Human Rights Information Center and the All Ukrainian Network of People Living with HIV (hereinafter – the Network of PLHIV). Ukrainian organizations are raising the alarm in view of the threat of discontinuance of HIV positive people treatment in the area of ATO and of reduce of the supply of antiviral drugs in other regions of Ukraine.
The first session of the National Oversight Committee was held on 3 November,2014. One of the main questiones of consideration on the session was the approval of the Protocol of hepatitis C treatment using new medicines for risk groups representatives in Ukraine.
On 28 October in Tbilisi a preliminary meeting was held of the Regional Network of legal aid to people affected by HIV. Lawyers of organizations from nine countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia discussed the possibility of improving the quality of legal aid, and ethical rules when working with vulnerable groups. The participants also discussed the issues of development of the network, increasing geographical coverage, and establishing continuous contacts with vulnerable groups. At the meeting, the presentations were made by experts of the IDLO and the UNDP regional office.
