Network for legal aid to people affected by HIV/AIDS includes the organizations from 9 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Today it is only network in the region, bringing together lawyers rendering free legal assistance to people affected by HIV in Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The eviction began on Friday of patients from the HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Clinic until now situated on the territory of the Kyiv Pecherska Lavra. Ihor Parfenyuk, who was gravely ill, has died in the Kherson Prison Colony The prison administration had applied to the court for his early release, however neither HIV, nor hepatitis C, nor tuberculosis of both lungs and the intestine were deemed grounds for the courts to release a person on health grounds and allow him to receive proper medical care. The application was rejected.
Oleh Nesynov from the Kharkiv Human Rights Group Network Legal Aid Network for Vulnerable Groups in Society recently succeeded in getting a child infected with HIV half a million UAH in compensation. The baby simply had the misfortune of being born in a hospital where at the same time there was another child with HIV. The baby was infected through a needle which the staff had obviously not sterilized. This was in 1997 before single-use syringes became the norm.
