In St. Petersburg, HIV-infected minors will be granted free legal aid
On 17 September the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg adopted unanimously the Law "On Amendments to the Law on Free Legal Aid." These amendments include the provision of free legal aid to HIV-infected minors and their representatives within the public system.
Member of the Legislative Assembly Lyudmila Kostkina noted that 200 families with HIV-infected children live in St. Petersburg, who receive monthly benefits in the amount of 5 thousand 10 rubles from the budget for HIV-infected children under the age of 18 for the purchase of goods for children and adolescents, baby food, special dairy products, and are provided with medicines and medical products.
"Adoption of the Law will ensure the availability of legal assistance to HIV-infected children and their parents and improve the legal protection of this category," - said the deputy.
Given the small number of members of this category, the implementation of the Law is possible within the available budget funds under the head of provision of free legal aid.
